Welcome!

Welcome to my blog! I don’t expect much traffic here, so we’ll see how this goes. If you somehow wound up here, I’d love for you to visit some of the sites I update more frequently.

I’m always tweeting on https://twitter.com/JBtheExplorer about all kinds of things, but I often share photos of my pond, native garden, or the outdoors.

Here is my Youtube page. I often share updates of my backyard goldfish pond, garden, camping trips, and everything else outdoors. My pond attracts all kinds of interesting animals and insects including birds, frogs, and praying manti. My native garden attracts even more.

Here is my Flickr page. This is where I share my best photos and nothing but my best photos. Photography is a hobby that I picked up about 5 years ago and I keep improving.

Now, I’ll tell you a little more about myself. It can’t be clear enough: I love nature. I love wildlife. If I could, I would spend every moment in the great outdoors. I don’t get to be in it nearly as much as I would like, but when I do get hiking days or camping weekends, I love to share my adventure in hopes that others will understand why these few remaining prairies, forests and other habitats are so important, and why we should work to expand them. I also encourage everyone to grow as many native plants in their yards as possible. Grass is a useless space. Nothing benefits from it and we often make our entire properties grass, when it doesn’t need to be that way. In many cases, yards don’t get used, but we spend countless hours and money maintaining it. Wouldn’t we rather have a beautiful and colorful prairie? You’d be surprised how stress relieving a prairie can be. You’d be surprised how many insects and animals rely on our native gardens.

Now, truth be told, I have a grass-filled yard too, and I hate it. Someday, I hope to be in a situation where I can convert to a prairie, or at least a native garden on  a larger scale. Even with my small native garden and pond, I attract all sorts of birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects. It just goes to show how important it is, that such a small area brought in so many species. They need it.

Beyond my native gardening and my pond, I also love camping, hiking, biking, and canoeing. I go camping a few times each year, but try to get outdoors at least once a week, and usually more in the warm months. One of my biggest hobbies is photography. I’ve merged that hobby with my love of nature  and I now consider it a tool that helps show others the beauty in nature and why we need to protect it and restore it.

In closing, I hope you check out the links above, maybe subscribe on Youtube or follow on Twitter. I love sharing what I see and I also love seeing others share their adventures. I ask you, every moment of every day, think about what you are doing and how it will positively or negatively affect the natural world. On that note, I’ll share with you just a few photos I’ve taken over the past year.
